School’s Out – Time to Reflect
Congratulations! You made it through the school year. For me, the “day after” was always bitter sweet. I was so thankful for some time to regroup, sometimes thankful to say goodbye to some of my students, but my mind was already churning about how to improve for next year. One thing we know for certain is that a teacher’s job is never done.
So now what? Take some time and think about your victories. What went well? Why did it work and why were students successful? Are there new strategies you used later in the year that you plan to use earlier? Keep notes of your ideas, whether on paper or electronically. Be sure to celebrate your successes! Too often we focus on things we’d change, or what went wrong, but allow yourself some time to think about what went right. For whom did you make a difference this year?
