Gender Equity

We hear a lot about gender equity these days on social media, in coffee shops, and even around the dinner table.    Wikipedia defines this as “the view that everyone should receive equal treatment and not be discriminated against based on their gender.”  It’s interesting to note that where gender equity is not always mentioned is in schools.  In “Gender Equity in the Classroom,” Rebecca Elber shares very interesting issues, questions, and ideas related to this topic.   She discusses what gender equity looks in terms of participation and curriculum materials and then poses some terrific questions for self-reflection.  Also included are some strategies to make your classroom and school more equitable.  Take a look:
